StrategiesThe Provident America Corporation claim was settled in February, 1995 for US $19 million. On November second, 1995, a jury in Jackson, Mississippi, granted US $500 million in Breach-of-agreement claim brought by Gulf National. This sum is just about twenty-six times high than what was initially requested. So as to bid, Loewen was required to post a US $625 million bond, which was later diminished to US $125 million with the condition that there would be no noteworthy change in resources or increments in profits without earlier notice to the court and the other party. No arrangement on was made on the fiscal summary now since the outcome was difficult to anticipate on the intrigue. On January 29th, 1996, Loewen settled the claim for US $175 million and recorded US $135 million, present estimation of $175 million. Loewen chose to settle in light of two reasons: the first is that the intrigue would financially affect the companys pay and the subsequent explan ation is that drawing out the claims would make vulnerability and hypothesis among the companys investors. S.C.I. Take-over AttemptOn September 17, 1996 Service Corporation International (S.C.I.), the biggest Funeral Service Company on the planet, put a $ 2.5. billion assume control over offer for Loewen Group Inc. The offers share esteem is proportionate to US $ 43 each. Houston based S.C.I.s offer was viewed as reasonable by numerous experts like Todd Richter of Dean Witter Reynolds Inc. (New York) and Ivar Leipens of Moss, Lawson ; Co. (Toronto). Another expert, Dean Martin of TD protections Inc. (Toronto), expressed that the offer was excessively low and that the an offer of US $ 50 would be reasonable. He noticed that Chairman Ray Loewen and his supervisory crew hold 20 % (15 % + 5 % separately) of the companys stock. Canadian institutional holders of the companys stock would be bound to help the organization since they should follow imperatives, for example, a top of 20 % on outside possessions with respect to Canadian Pension reserves. Along these lines S.C.I. will has made some tr oublesome memories picking up the help of 75 % of Loewen Group Inc. investors required according to the Canadian protections law. In the week following the declaration of the assume control over offer, the fourth biggest organization in the business, Equity Corp. Global, situated in Lufkin, Texas had reached the Federal Trade Commission with respect to how to get qualified to offer for stripped properties if the take-over occurred. Value Corp. Worldwide is 40 % possessed by Service Corp. Worldwide. Another organization, Continua LLC, offered Loewen Group Inc. $ 500 million in return for some of Loewens southern US property. On September 27, 1996 the State of Florida propelled an antitrust test into the assume control over offer. The state was stressed over the effect it would have on Medicare issues, evaluating and different territories. S.C.I. would raise the offer to US $ 45 for each offer before Loewen dismissed the offer on October 10, 1996, while simultaneously propelling an antitrust claim against S.C.I. also, Equity Corp. Worldwide. The claim blamed the two organizations for contriving to wipe out L.G.I. from the business. All organizations in the Funeral Service Industry are proceeding to reposition themselves as the business keeps on growing. On the off chance that fruitful, S.C.I. would have the option to corner the North American market. S.C.I.s assume control over proposition is planned to kill the opposition in North America. S.C.I. needed to purchase modest after the one time occasion with the jury. By taking over Loewen, S.C.I. would turn into the favored purchaser in the business. Loewen dismissed their offer on account of the accompanying reasons:1) insufficient proposition which has a potential enemy of rivalry impact in thecommonwealth of the business. 2) Although the two organizations support the coordination of new acquisitions in their structures, Loewen felt that its structure would not be saved. 3) Loewen is considered as the favored acquirer in the business after the obtaining of two of its key resources: Prime Succession, and Ross Hill Memorial Park, two significant graveyards in the United States of America. Loewen concluded that it is ideal to keep actualizing the companys long haul field-tested strategy as an autonomous organization. Loewen has made a decent corporate culture and has a record for thinking about its workers, clients, and networks it serves. In this manner, workers are relied upon to utilize their feelings to impact the enthusiastic condition of others (Glomb &Tews, 2004). This idea came to fruition in 1983 by a humanist by the name Arlie Hochschild who made the term ‘emotional labour’. The Schools With The Highest Salary Potential for Business Majors

The Schools With The Highest Salary Potential for Business Majors by: Jeff Schmitt on November 08, 2014 | 0 Comments Comments 39,779 Views November 8, 2014UC-Berkeleys Haas School of BusinessPop quiz: Name the most popular undergraduate major.Education, you say? Not even close. Medical? Maybe someday. Come on people, you know this. Wait†¦did someone just say â€Å"business?† Congratulations! In fact, business is twice as popular as the next major. Don’t believe me? According to data released by the U.S. Department of Education in 2013, business comprised 365,000 of the 1,716,000 million undergraduate degrees conferred from 2010-2011. That’s a one-in-five split. The next closest? That’d be social sciences and history (177,000), health (143,000), and education (104,000). There’s no denying it: Business is a huge draw, even if leading programs like Harvard and Stanford don’t offer it at the undergraduate level. And that brings up an intr iguing question: What draws undergraduates to business? Let’s face it: Business isn’t as glamorous as social media or fashion design. It doesn’t nourish passions (or demons) like theater or music, either. If students follow the media – or listen to some professors – they might believe that business achieves no social good. And let’s face it: Business has a â€Å"reputation† for being the last resort for grade-challenge jocks and frat boys (not to mention juniors who are lost or would rather socialize). In the end, business promises stability, a chance to learn useful tools for immediate employment. More than that, it offers the hope of someday earning big money. How big? That question was recently answered by PayScale, a leading data warehousing firm that specializes in employee compensation. On September 10th, PayScale released its â€Å"Best Schools by Salary Potential for Business Majors† ranking, which revealed the starting and mid-career salaries for business majors from over 499 colleges and universities.HOW PAYSCALE CALCULATES PROFESSIONAL INCOMESThis salary data was pulled from PayScale’s database of 1.4 million college graduates, which is collected from its ongoing online compensation surveys and capture employer, compensation, demographic and educational backgrounds. While sample sizes vary, the average sample per school was 325 graduate profiles (with some schools featuring as many as 4,000 profiles). The data sets, which focus exclusively on American college graduates, only include business degree holders who did not earn advanced degrees like an MBA. In addition, salaries consisted of â€Å"base annual salary or hourly wage, bonuses, profit sharing, tips, commissions, and overtime.† However, it did not take into account equity or stock compensation (a major reward for CEOs or professionals working in high tech and entrepreneurial ventures). PayScale’s methodology also didnà ¢â‚¬â„¢t incorporate benefits like pensions or healthcare benefits into salaries.U.C.-BerkeleyCALIFORNIA-BERKELEY TOPS STARTING AND MID-CAREER SALARIES The University of California-Berkeley comes with a certain (ahem) image. In anything-goes â€Å"Berzerkely,† people imagine a wave of Marxists, womynists, and greens screaming into megaphones and marching over every perceived slight or lost political cause. However, Berkeley’s Haas School of Business is also a leading incubator for entrepreneurship. And its graduates are the recipients of the highest starting and mid-career salaries. According to PayScale, Berkeley business graduates earn $72,000 in their early careers (i.e. five years or less experience in their career or field). By the mid-point of their career, these professionals – who are, on average, 44 years old and carry 15 years of experience – are making $138,300.Mind you, these numbers don’t take cost of living into account – and t he Bay Area is among the most expensive in the world. However, Berkeley is obviously doing something right, whether it is the quality of education, network, career services, or area job opportunities. However, the starting and mid-career salaries for Berkeley undergraduate business majors are respectively $12,500 and $24,100 per year higher than other Bachelor degree holders at Berkeley. Talk about a strong return on investment! Page 1 of 612345... »Last  »

Using Agile at Blue Cloud Free Essay Example, 750 words

In my opinion, before continuing or discontinuing the use of Agile in the company, overall assessments are done collectively within the company must be made first before coming to a decision. First, there must be a comparison of the previous company outputs and results prior to the use of Agile and after implementing Agile, then check which method has more cons than pros. Also, employee feedback must be welcomed as well, since they are mostly the ones that would be using the methods and programs hands-on. Lastly, if clarifications with the objectives of the Agile method are needed to be disseminated or reviewed for the employees that did not understand it fully, then it must be done as well. After weighing the cons and pros, only then would the continuation or discontinuation of Agile can be decided. It is expected that some changes may not take effect fully within a year after implementing new strategies within an organization (Paton McCalman, 2008). Also, the statistics of using the system for 30 months as compared to previous statistics of the company output before implementing Agile would speak better of the need to either keep using the method or sourcing another method for the improvement of the work program in Blue Cloud, since this is a timeframe which is inclusive of the learning curve and the adjustment period for all company employees. We will write a custom essay sample on Using Agile at Blue Cloud or any topic specifically for you Only $17.96 $11.86/pageorder now Thus, I would personally recommend continuing the use of Agile for the next 18 months, as well as strengthening the importance of its use within the company. Following up with the suggestion of using Agile for the next 18 months, in order to fully harness the full potential of implementing the program, feedback and reviews of the previous year in using Agile would be initiated. After assimilating the feedback and reviews as well as evaluating the circumstances that led to these opinions, changes that needed to be implemented would be done and monthly assessments on whether certain changes did improve productivity and output within the company or not (Spector, 2012).

Biography of Lee Krasner, Abstract Expressionist Artist

Lee Krasner (born Lena Krassner; October 27, 1908–June 19, 1984), an American painter of Russian-Jewish descent, was a pioneering Abstract Expressionist of the New York School. For decades, her reputation was overshadowed by that of her late husband, painter Jackson Pollock, whose superstardom and tragic death distracted from her own career. Years after Pollocks death, however, Krasner received recognition for her own artistic accomplishments. Fast Facts: Lee Krasner Occupation: Artist (Abstract Expressionist) Also Known As: Lena Krassner (given name); Lenore Krasner Born: October 27, 1908 in Brooklyn, New YorkDied: June 19, 1984 in New York City, New YorkEducation: The Cooper Union, National Academy of Design Spouse: Jackson PollockKey Accomplishment: Krasner remains one of the few women artists to have her work exhibited in a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art. Early Life Lee Krasner was born in 1908 to Russian-Jewish immigrant parents. Krasner was the first in her family to be born in the United States, just nine months after her parents and older siblings emigrated due to growing anti-Semitic sentiment in Russia. At home in Brownsville, Brooklyn, the family spoke a mix of Yiddish, Russian, and English, though Krasner favored English. Krasners parents ran a grocery and fishmonger in East New York and often struggled to make ends meet. Her older brother Irving, to whom she was very close, read to her from classic Russian novels like Gogol and Dostoevsky. Though she was a naturalized citizen, Krasner felt connected to her parents’ homeland. Later in life, she often bristled at the suggestion that she was a fully American artist. The Jewish Museum, New York.  © The Pollock-Krasner Foundation/Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York Education Krasner always showed a sense of initiative. At an early age, she decided that the arts-focused, all-girls Washington Irving High School in Manhattan was the only school she wanted to attend, as its arts focus was a rarity at the time. Krasner was initially denied entry to the school due to her Brooklyn residence, but she eventually managed to gain admission. Perhaps ironically, Krasner excelled in all classes except for art, but she passed because of her otherwise exceptional record. During high school, Krasner abandoned her given name Lena and took on the name Lenore, inspired by the Edgar Allen Poe character. After graduation, Krasner attended the Cooper Union. She was very popular (though not necessarily academically successful) and was elected to various school offices. At Cooper Union, she changed her name once again, this time to Lee: an Americanized (and, notably, androgynous) version of her given Russian name. Having attended two art-centric girls schools, the idea of being a woman artist was not remarkable to the young Krasner. It was not until she went to the National Academy of Design that she encountered resistance to her chosen career path. She was riled by the idea that women were sometimes kept from doing what the male artists were permitted to do at the traditionally-minded institution. Ernst Haas / Getty Images Life as a Professional Artist 1929 was a notable year for Krasner. That year marked the opening of the Museum of Modern Art, which exposed her to the Modernist style and the enormous possibility it represented. 1929 also marked the beginning of the Great Depression, which spelled disaster for many aspiring artists. Krasner joined the Works Projects Administration (WPA), which employed artists for various public art projects, including the many murals on which Krasner worked. It was on the WPA that she met critic Harold Rosenberg, who would later go on to write a seminal essay on the Abstract Expressionists, as well as many other artists. Krasner lived with Igor Pantuhoff, a fellow painter of Russian origin and an alumni of the National Design Academy, for most of their ten-year relationship. However, Pantuhoffs parents held anti-Semitic views of Krasner, and the two never married. (Pantuhoff realized his mistake after he left the relationship, and he eventually went to New York to win Krasner back. By that time, Krasner had already taken up with Jackson Pollock, who, in his typically bellicose fashion, physically chased Pantuhoff from the premises.) Relationship With Jackson Pollock In the late 1930s, Krasner took classes led by the expressionist painter and famed pedagogue Hans Hofmann. She also joined the Artist Union. In 1936, at an Artist Union dance, Krasner met Jackson Pollock, whom she would meet again several years later when they both exhibited their work in the same group exhibition. In 1942, the couple moved in together. Pollock’s rise to fame, stewarded by his wife, was meteoric. In 1949 (the year he and Krasner married), Pollock was featured in Life Magazine under the title, â€Å"Is he the greatest living painter in the United States?† Some accounts suggest that Krasner spent so much time promoting her husband’s career that she did not have time to dedicate herself to her own work. However, this version of history is misleading. In Springs, Long Island, where the couple bought a house soon after they married, Krasner used an upstairs bedroom as her studio while Pollock worked in the barn. Both were known to work furiously, and would (when invited) visit each others studios for advice and critique. However, Pollocks alcoholism and infidelity damaged the relationship, and the marriage ended tragically in 1956. Krasner was away in Europe, and Pollock was driving under the influence of alcohol with his mistress and another passenger. Pollock crashed his car, killing himself and the other passenger (though sparing the life of his mistress). Krasner was bereft at losing her husband, and ultimately channeled this emotion into her work. Lee Krasner (American, 1908-1984). Gaea, 1966. Oil on canvas. 69 x 125 1/2 in. (175.3 x 318.8 cm). In 1965, she received her first retrospective at the Whitechapel Gallery in London. She experienced a surge of interest in her work in the 1970s, as the feminist movement was eager to reclaim art history’s lost women. The appeal of the sidelined wife of a storied American painter made Krasner a cause to champion. Krasners first retrospective in the United States opened in 1984 at the Museum of Modern Art, just months after her death at the age of 75. The Model For Large Integrated Companies - 2378 Words

I. INTRODUCTION In the 20th century, the model for large integrated companies was to ‘own, manage, and directly control’ their assets. In the 1950s and 1960s, the companies adopted to diversification methods with a motive to protect profits, even though expansion needed multiple layers of management. Subsequently, organizations that attempted to compete globally in the 1970s and 1980s were handicapped by a lack of agility that resulted from bloated management structures. Hence, in order to increase their flexibility and creativity, many companies decided to develop a new strategy of focusing on their core businesses, this new strategy led to the evolution of a strategy known as ‘Outsourcing’. Outsourcing can be defined as ‘the strategic use of outside sources to perform activities traditionally handled by internal staff and resources’. In this strategy, the organizations contract out major functions of their manufacturing products to more specialized and efficient service providers, who later become valued business partners. It looks more like a simple supplementation of resources by subcontracting, but it is actually different to outsourcing. In actual outsourcing, the organization is also involved in substantial restructuring of particular business activities including, often, the transfer of staff from a host company to a specialist, usually smaller, company with the required core competencies. The current stage in the evolution of outsourcing is all about theShow MoreRelatedCompany Overview : Evolent Health1225 Words   |  5 Pages Company Overview Evolent Health was founded in 2011 using investments, intellectual capital and technological capabilities from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and the Advisory Board Company (ABC); both companies still own large stakes in Evolent. Dulce Et Decorum Est Poetry Essay - 980 Words

Describe at least ONE memorable use of language in the text(s) Explain how this use of language helped you understand one or more key ideas in the text(s). In the poem ‘Dulce et Decorum est’ and ‘The Send-Off’ by Wilfred Owen, he uses a variety of language techniques including metaphor, personification and emotive expressive language to create a huge impact on readers evoking feelings such as horror and pity of the soldiers and of war. Owen’s intention of using these effective language techniques was to convey the horrific reality of war and to shatter the myth of war as a glorious mission. World War 1 (also known as the ‘Great War’) was a major war centered around Europe that involved countries from all over the globe between 1914 and†¦show more content†¦Even in the present, a number of soldiers returning from war commit suicide due to their unfathomable guilt of surviving and the horrible traumatizing memories that continue to besiege them. The poet tells us, the glory of war is just an â€Å"old lie†. Owen shows the indignity of death in war as the dying man was â€Å"flung† in a wagon instead of being honored for his bravery and duty as the way they were told. The last stanza goes into sickening detail of the dying man, â€Å"at every jolt the blood – come gargling from his froth-corrupted lungs†, the â€Å"white eyes writhing† in his face. The use of alliteration and assonance emphasizes how the memory has a powerful impact on those who witnessed the scene. Owen’s vivid imagery consumes the reader in horror, pity, shock, even disgust and is enough to sear the heart and mind. The cruel reality of war can be clearly seen as men lose their lives in the most pointless futile manner as they are just â€Å"flung† aside during death. Just by reading, the readers can perceive Owen’s bitter and disparaging tone towards war, the propaganda and sectors of society who glori fied it. During those times before there was any media coverage, people only relied on the government and propaganda. In Owen’s preface to an anthology of his poems published posthumously, he stated â€Å"my subject is war, and the pity of war.† â€Å"All a poet can do today is warn. Name Essay Example For Students

Name Essay During the Middle Ages, church and state leaders had many battles. Some who were involved were Holy Roman Emperor Heinrich IV and Pope Gregory VIII; King II and Archbishop Thomas Becket; King Philip IV and Pope Boniface VIII. Their situations were all related by the fact that they were all controversies between an emperor or king and the Catholic church. The Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV and Pope Gregory VIII’s struggle was centered on by investiture. Henry invested many bishops at his own will even though Gregory had banned investiture by laity. Henry felt his investiture of bishops was necessary to the control of his kingdom, so he kept on doing it. Gregory responded to this by excommunicating Henry. Henry later apologized and received the Pope’s forgiveness. Out of humiliation, he chased Gregory out of Rome and elected a new pope. King Henry II made his close and dear friend Thomas Becket Archbishop of Canterbury in hopes that since he and his friend were so close, Becket would give some power over the Church to Henry. Instead, Becket refused to do Henry’s bidding and became a fierce champion of the independence and rights of the church. In 1170, Becket was killed during a church mass by four of Henry’s knights. Henry surrendered to the Pope, who threatened him with excommunication. Thomas Becket was later named a saint and is a symbol of the struggle between church and state. Pope Boniface VIII believed that the Pope, whomever he may be, was always in higher power than the reigning king or emperor. Boniface issued a bull saying kings could not tax clergy, yet King Philip IV kept on taxing the Church. Boniface issued yet another bull titled the Unam Sanctum which stated that there were two powers in the universe: earthly (kings, emperors, etc.) and spiritual (God) and that spiritual is always higher than earthly. Since he represented God, Boniface said he had more power than Philip, but Philip just ignored Boniface’s bull yet once more. Before Boniface could excommunicate Philip, Philip’s soldiers kidnapped Boniface from his palace in Anagni in 1803. The people of Anagni eventually saved Boniface, but the Pope was so shocked, he soon died. As one can see, all these situations are closely tied together. They may have involved different people, but they all revolved around one thing. A controversy between church and state.Bibliography:

Question: Discuss about the Legal Risk Management in Construction Project. Answer: Introduction Construction projects are of major importance for development of proper operations and the infrastructure (Cao et al. 2015). Leadership Bob Shallenberger and John Cavanagh

Bob and John are exercising leadership in various ways. First of all, they have a vision for their organisation and they have exchanged this purpose with their people. Employees are aware that the company wants to be recognised as the top green builder in the country so they will contribute towards this shared vision.Advertising We will write a custom coursework sample on Leadership: Bob Shallenberger and John Cavanagh specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Also, leadership can be seen through the fact that Shallenberger and Cavanagh have energized their people. They are passionate about their business and have passed on this energy to others in the organisation. This is an action that all leaders have to engage in. Furthermore, leadership has been exercised through the act of working with people well to produce remarkable results at the end. It appears as though they are actually partnering with their employees rather than merely givin g them orders on what to do or how to go about it (Dubrin, 2010). As they attract cool people to work with them, these two entrepreneurs are exercising the role of persuasion. In other words, they have managed to illustrate to the applicants that the company has the potential to provide them with the most conducive workplace environment. It seems as though the would-be employees have seen the supportive environment that they are likely to find here than elsewhere. Also, the leadership role of guiding could be another important factor. If already existing employees are treated with mutual respect rather than being ordered around then they are likely to stick to the company and maybe even spread the word that the firm is a great place to work. This would cause even more cool people to be attracted to it because they would be rest assured that there are going to find what they are really looking for (Dubrin, 2010). Cool people are likely to be keep working for Highland Homes because th e owners are passionate about what they do. Instead of merely taking a businesslike and boring approach to everything, Shallenberger and Cavanagh believe in doing everything passionately. This inclination is going to rub off on everyone else as the latter will not just be thinking of their workplaces as just any other job.Advertising Looking for coursework on business economics? For instance, they have the stereo, CD player etc that are typical in all their homes. Cool people are likely to want to work for people who continuously look for creative ways of doing business. Also, as opposed to being highly bossy, the employees of Highland Homes are going to stay on because they will find that their employers are very inspiring. They will be motivated to keep reaching their potential and this will definitely keep them there (Dubrin, 2010). In order to be the top green residential builder in the US, Shallenberger and Cavanagh may need to cultivate great interpersonal skills within themselves so as to maintain a close association with the team working for them. This will cause them to possess joint accountability and decision making ability. A case in point was Roadway management which spread leadership to lower levels. This ensured that everyone played a part in the success of the firm and eventually contributed towards the realisation of huge profits. Essentially, what this implies is that once responsibilities are shared then the likelihood of attaining common goals is going to increase. They must motivate their people to want to work harder so that Highland Homes can outsmart or outdo their competitors. People who are driven by passion rather than rules are likely to put in more and their results would speak for themselves (Dubrin, 2010). Reference Dubrin, A. J. (2010). How to Use a Sample of an Analysis Essay

How to Use a Sample of an Analysis EssayIn order to get the right college essay, you need to find a sample of an analysis essay. There are many ways you can do this. One way is to look through some of your friends' essays, or see if your classmates are working on their college essays. You can also go online and look at examples. It is important that you understand how to write an essay in order to make the most of your sample essay. You will want to be clear about your purpose in writing the essay. This is important in order to make sure that you are specific in your thinking. For example, if you are writing an essay about a good essay prompt then you will need to know what prompts are good. This is something that can be hard to determine without one of the samples. When writing a good essay topic, you may be tempted to read through the typical sample. However, you want to avoid this. If you need to do a specific task in order to answer the questions in the essay, you should consider wr iting the necessary sections yourself. You don't want to spend time writing for someone else, but the same guidelines apply. If you are writing the essay, you should think about how you will structure it. Use the sample as a guide to make sure that you have the content down, but you can always add additional sections. For example, when writing an analysis essay, you will need to include the information that describes the author's research. The details that are included will help the reader understand the situation. You can always change the details later on.In addition, it is very important that you research a specific topic in order to do the best job possible. This is especially true if the topic is highly relevant to your topic. Researching the topic may help you create a better conclusion, but if you find out that the topic is not relevant, it will only serve to confuse the reader.Overall , you want to make sure that you are clear in your thoughts before writing the analysis essay. If you want to use a sample, it should be directly related to the essay topic that you are writing. If it is not, you will have to look for one on your own.

Communication Climate Essays - Communication Theory, Free Essays

Communication Climate Essays - Communication Theory, Free Essays Communication Climate I have found that the communication climate at the company I have worked for the last seven years is a combination of bureaucratic, human and system theories. As the company sets the control by establishing rationale rules that regulate the entire organization, written documents like organizational charts, corporate manuals, operating instructions, job descriptions and so on, establish the law of the land virtually for all organizational activities. This makes bureaucratic theory the most visible structure of communication, since it goes downward, the instruction comes from management and most of the time the respond is by providing a report or chart that indicates the direction or result desire for the specific task. When most of the communication is vertical, there is horizontal communication activity in the organization, must of this taken place between groups that depends from one another and from employees which design and plan the different task in which the groups are currently working. All of this communication is needed since projects are accomplished by different groups, and meetings and working sessions are required to direct the ideas toward the same outcome desired. This horizontal communication is the closest we get to human relations theory. As for the system theory is also put in play because many of these groups are form in the base of resources, abilities, personalities and needs of the group members, in order to make more practical and efficient the results to accomplish the task in hand. I see myself as a member of the team looking for the best way to relate and communicate with my fellow coworkers, understanding that organizational communication differs from person to person. I am looking to learn, how to relate and absorb the messages that people in general send to me. I want and need to move forward, and I have understand that communication in all its different ways is the key to my development socially and professionally. The fact that English has been a second language to me for the last 15 years, it is very important to rich a label in which I feel confident in my working environment in which I perform in a daily basis. It has being difficult to accomplish a second grammar structure and a second pronunciation, very much different from my main language, this is the reason for this course, and also the fact of coming back to school has become a matter of self-motivation and closure.

Traditional Way and Agile Way of Management Essay

Traditional Way and Agile Way of Management - Essay Example Iterative or agile method involves incremental development. The system and the process is gradually built and has an advantage over other methods. For instance, if there is a need to modify the management process or the direction of the system needs to go through sudden abrupt changes; agile management system has a better chance to cater for the change then other methods. One relatively rigid method is ‘waterfall method’.In comparison with the agile project management, the waterfall method uses clearly (or with less flexibility) defined deliverables for the life cycle of the project. The higher management of a company performs a complete audit of the system before it is incorporated into the project management. Agile project management method cuts the processing time considerably. Projects that took months to complete in the past are being accomplished within weeks or days. This project managing method modifies the conventional iteration processes waterfall and makes the m more flexible and advanced.Despite the fact that agile management is rarely used to manage a mega project, it is no less crucial than the conventional of traditional project management methods and tools. A mega project can be divided into several parts and then these small parts can then be governed and managed by agile management. That is why a collage of management methods and tactics are incorporated in one project. The core difference between agile and traditional project management rests in their estimating techniques.

Understanding Mental Health Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words

Understanding Mental Health - Essay Example The term mental health refers to a state of complete cognitive, psychological, emotional and social well-being of a person. Or in other words, it may also be termed as the absence of any mental disorder or disease. This paper aims at analyzing the case study of Peter, a man who is chronically suffering from addiction to alcohol and drugs. The World Health Organization however advocates that mental health is â€Å"not merely the absence of disease or infirmity† (WHO, 2001, p.1). It offers a much more comprehensive definition of the term by stating that mental health is â€Å"a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community". WHO stresses that mental health "is not just the absence of mental disorder† (WHO, 2001, p.1) The Med lexicon’s Medical Dictionary (2010) defines mental health as â€Å"emotional, behavioral, and social maturity or normality; the absence of a mental or behavioral disorder; a state of psychological well-being in which one has achieved a satisfactory integration of ones instinctual drives acceptable to both oneself and ones social milieu; an appropriate balance of love, work, and leisure pursuits† (Neer aja & Anuradha, 2014, p. 87) . Hence, the three basic ideas that can be inferred from the two definitions about mental health are: firstly, that mental health is an essential part of human health; secondly, that mental health is a wide concept and cannot be defined as merely the absence of disease; and thirdly, that mental health is intricately connected to physical health and behavior. (Herrman, Saxena & Moodie, 2005) Though Peter was not suffering from any obvious physical disease or disorder, his addiction to alcohol and drugs had severely affected his

FIN501 - Strategic Corporate Finance Mod 3 SLP Essay

FIN501 - Strategic Corporate Finance Mod 3 SLP - Essay Example But we might wonder what determines the rate of return that a shareholder would want on a particular stock? It would depend for one thing on the price of the stock (highs, lows and average) and the historical trend of dividend payouts that has been made in recent years. Though every stockholder would have his personal thoughts and opinions on this, we can be sure that it would be higher than the risk free rate- the rate on US Government bonds maturing in one year and guaranteed by the Government. It would also depend on the Beta coefficient for that particular stock. In fact a good estimate of the rate of return expected by a stockholder in relation to a particular stock would be given by the Capital Asset Pricing Model formula which goes as follows: Rj - RF = ÃŽ ²j [RM - RF]. By using this model, we can estimate the cost of equity or the rate of return that our companys shareholders require. Every financial manager must be aware of this because it will help to determine whether a particular course of action by the company will or will not add value to the shareholders. This is the minimum rate of return and may be regarded as the cost of equity. Given that the average cost of capital for a firm in the S&P 500 is 10.2 percent, I would have expected the Coca Cola Company to have a lower cost of capital than the average firm. This is because the Coca Cola Company is a good stock with consistency in performance and price. The price fluctuation for Coca Cola stock has not been too much, with a current price of $67.46, a low of $61.29 and a high of $71.77 in the last 12 months (Yahoo Finance, 2012). Now I will compare the Beta and compute the Required Rate of Return using the CAPM for Dr. Pepper and the Pepsi Corporation, two competing firms of the Coca Cola Corporation and in the same industry sector. For Dr. Pepper the Beta is 0.74 and for Pepsi Corporation, the Beta is 0.42 (Yahoo Finance, 2012). The required rates

Child By Tiger :: essays research papers

The opening stanzas from William Blake’s poem â€Å"The Tiger† in â€Å"The Child By Tiger† by Thomas Wolfe help accentuate the theme of the story. They further relate to the passage in which Dick Prosser’s bible was left open to. The stanzas incorporated in the story reveal that with every good is evil. â€Å"The Child By Tiger† inlays a sense of good with evil tailing it as its shadow. In the beginning, Blake’s stanza questions â€Å"†¦who could frame thy fearful symmetry?† Dick Prosser appears to be kind and moral, but later reveals his vengeful side as he chaotically kills people. His conflicts with society inspire the evil to spring forward and divulge himself. The reference to â€Å"tiger!† in Blake’s stanza indirectly relates to the fact that Prosser is referred to as a cat through Wolfe’s story. Prosser’s evil self is illustrated as stealthily and smartly stalking his prey; pretending to be the same amongst the others. This evil, Prosser himself, exhibits tendencies of moral goodness as he tries to suppress his situational conflict. Evil stalks a prey smartly; it takes notice of every slight move, and every attempt to through it off fails because it always lands back on its feet. Prosser was a very religious man; he had a bible that he constantly read and was worn from use. The last passage marked as read insinuates that Prosser’s death was destined. He was made to â€Å"lie down† in wait, and see what he could spread his â€Å"dread grasp† on. His role was to act as everyone else because his evil self was stalking the others. Prosser was the â€Å"deadly terrors† everyone ran from, for he was on â€Å"the path of righteousness for his name’s sake.† He was meant for the town to see the evil that it can create. Belief Fact Infer

There is this one belief that I feel strongly about and that is religion. I believe that it is important to have a religion. A religion where you can rely on, where in your faith is based on having belief towards God. Religion is a man’s expression of his acknowledgement of the divine. Throughout the ages and throughout the world, people have been baffled by the unknown and the mysteries of life for which they have no ready answer. As I look around and observe the magnificent things, I can really say to myself that how awesome is he who created the heavens and the earth.I can truly say to myself that there is someone up there, who is greater than us and omnipotent. There are times that I try to figure out things but the truth is I cannot fathom it; thus, that is how religion came in. But there is one thing that I have great doubts with, and that is if Religion is still important today as it was before? Are the religious convictions still present in this generation? Many people nowadays are much busier than before. They are too preoccupied with other things such as money, success, fame, treasures and material possessions. And even if they do not religiously go to church and have an established religion, they still manage to be so happy and successful. I really wonder why. And there are others who have an established religion, but live their lives with miseries. Is not it unfair? As we all know critical thinking is a process where in one carefully analyzes a certain situation that serves as a tool for something to achieve or to be done. Suppressing critical thinking is sometimes the effect of minding too much of other things and avoid getting so stressed out and pressured.Sleeping, eating, winding up and having fun are some of the methods used to suppress one’s critical thinking. Fact is the truth. A thing can be made a fact when it is being supported with theories, and evidence. A fact is real when it is already accepted by great theorist, scientist , sociologists and others and also backed up with tangible evidences. Yes, facts are open to subjective interpretation, since we have our own ways of conceiving things. Some of us do not accept established facts while others do. To infer means to prove, to display truth. No, I think it is not the same as fact. Because in fact, it is already made evident or true while to infer is to make something into a truth or a fact. There is still a process involved in it. For example; The student is asking their professor to infer that humans really came from apes; The student nurse is to infer that the reason why she was absent from her duty was due to her hospitalization.

Martin Luther King Memorial in Yerba Buena Gardens

Chelsea Shuto HIST125 Professor Harrison 28 Nov. 2012 Final Essay Situated on the corner of 4th St. and Mission St., in downtown San Francisco is Yerba Buena Gardens. Sounds from the hustle and bustle of cars driving and people walking permeate Yerba Buena Gardens, except in one particular location. In one corner of the gardens stands a Martin Luther King Jr. memorial. The memorial is breathtakingly beautiful with a fifty foot high and twenty foot wide waterfall that falls over Sierra granite. In the Memorial’s hallway, visitors read quotes from Dr. King himself that are engraved on glass panels and set in granite. The physical beauty of the memorial is undeniable, however many people†¦show more content†¦People living in today’s society are usually ignorant to this unfamiliar, almost claustrophobic feeling of screaming at the top of your lungs without a single person acknowledging your frustrations. During our nation’s history, however, nearly all African Americans struggled with this same frustratio n. Helpless against the white minority, blacks throughout history struggled to get their concerns addressed and their votes counted. The visitor’s inability to communicate vocally is short-lived and fortunately, only lasts as long as it takes for the person to walk through the memorial. African Americans, however, were plagued with powerlessness for hundreds of years. Martin Luther King Jr. felt obliged to provide a voice for all African Americans stripped of the right to do so on their own. Due to the hard work of Martin Luther King, civil rights leaders and activists, and President Johnson, on August 6, 1965 the Voting Rights Act was signed into law, which banned the use of literacy tests and also required stricter monitoring of the use of poll taxes in state and local elections† 3. Finally, the time had come when African Americans could voice their opinions and have them be heard, and vote for the political constituent whom carried similar beliefs and morals. The development of the Yerba Buena Gardens, as part of the â€Å"Urban Renewal Project† was not always considered to be
